What do you do when the world shuts down, your classes go online, and you’re stuck wondering how to make extra cash? If you’re Chatty David, you dive headfirst into crypto, without a clue what you’re doing.
Fast forward a few years, and this law student has gone from “What is Bitcoin?” to making smart trades, cashing out profits, and even schooling others on how to get started. But she’s not stopping at trading. Chatty has a bigger vision: bringing crypto education to women and communities where Web3 is still misunderstood.
Despite facing doubt and skepticism in her hometown, she’s proving that crypto isn’t just for tech bros and finance bros. It’s for anyone, especially women, who want more. Here’s how she did it, and why she’s just getting started.
Welcome to our International Women’s Day interview, Chatty. Let’s start with the basics—who are you, what do you do, and what’s one fun fact about yourself?
Chatty: Haha, okay! My name is Chatty David, and I’m a law student at the University of Jos. I’m also an entrepreneur, a small-time business owner, and, of course, a crypto trader. Fun fact? Hmm… I discovered crypto by accident while searching for online jobs during the lockdown. Best accident ever!
That’s wild! So, how did you go from casually stumbling into crypto to actually trading and investing?
Chatty: It all started in 2020. I was online, looking for ways to earn money, and I came across a post that someone made about making profits on Quidax. I was curious but I didn’t have any idea where to start. So, I created an account, watched a few tutorials, and bought Bitcoin for the first time. A week later, I checked my account, and my balance had gone up. That’s when I knew I had to learn more.
And what was your next step after that?
Chatty: The biggest game-changer was joining the Quidax Telegram community. I started learning from real traders, asking questions, and absorbing all the knowledge I could. I even joined Quidax trading competitions and quizzes, which helped me practice what I was learning. That was what made all the difference.
So, what kind of trader are you now?
Chatty: I’d call myself a smart trader. I get paid in crypto from some online jobs, and I don’t just cash out immediately. I monitor the market—if there’s a dip, I stack up coins. If the price is right, I sell. I keep it simple, but it works for me.
That’s solid! But let’s talk about community. You mentioned earlier how Quidax communities really helped you. Are there any other communities that you benefit from?
Chatty: Oh none at all. Crypto isn’t really popular where I’m from. In fact, at first, people thought I had joined a Ponzi scheme! In my community, people view online money-making opportunities as scams and that’s what they think crypto is too. People told me I was wasting my time or that I would lose all my money.
And did that ever make you second-guess your decision?
Chatty: To be honest, it almost got to me. But instead of quitting, I decided to educate myself even more so that I could explain it better. And funny enough, the same people who doubted me started coming to me for advice when they saw I was actually making money from it. I’ve even introduced some of my family members to Quidax, and now they trade too!
Love that! So, what’s your long-term vision, where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Chatty: Beyond trading, I want to make crypto education more accessible, especially for women and people in communities like mine. I’ve already had people randomly reach out to me online, asking for help, and I know there are many others who want to learn but don’t have the right guidance. I also want to combine my law degree with blockchain technology, focusing on cyber law, intellectual property, and tech regulations. Crypto is the future, and I want to be part of shaping how it evolves.
That’s such a powerful vision! Any final words for women who are hesitant about getting into crypto?
Chatty: Just start. You don’t need to know everything at once—just take that first step. Find a good platform like Quidax, join a community, and don’t let fear hold you back. If I can do it while juggling law school, so can you!
Chatty’s journey proves one thing: crypto is for everyone, especially women who want financial independence. Whether you’re a student, entrepreneur, or just someone looking for a new opportunity, there’s room for you in the crypto world.
