Every May 22 is Bitcoin Pizza Day 🍕, and we’re celebrating today at the Quidax HQ.
But before getting into celebration mode and placing an order from Domino’s or Panarottis Pizza, what’s Bitcoin Pizza Day all about?
The Bitcoin Pizza Day Backstory
On May 22, 2010, a Bitcoin miner named Laszlo Hanyecz bought two Papa John’s pizza boxes and paid 10,000 BTC for them 🤯. Yes, you read that right!
At the time, BTC payments were not so popular, so it was the first-ever recorded transaction where someone paid for an item with crypto.
Over the years, crypto payments have become popular, and millions of people worldwide have Laszlo to thank for that 👏. So, here’s us raising a glass to him for his big achievement🥂.
In Laszlo’s defence, the coins were worth only $41 at the time. But then, I wonder how that man really feels today, considering that 10,000 BTC is worth $710 million 🤑.
